Artists have worked with trash forever - nothing new there.

Activists have been raising awareness about recycling and over-consumption forever - nothing new there either.

And mail art? Well, that's been around for a while too.

But it's Trashbaby's turn to start something, so here goes! Visible Trash - Art into Action is a traveling guerrilla art action designed to raise awareness about trash. There are two parts to the project: the postcards and the installations. The postcards will form the core of each new installation and will travel accordingly.

Installations will happen sporadically in random public and private spaces as opportunities present themselves, organized by individuals or groups. The postcards will be the starting point for each installation but it can grow from there. New postcards will be added to the project as they’re received.

Anyone can participate in the postcard part of the project by mailing in one small original piece of work, which will be collected and exhibited as part of each new installation.

Your piece will become part of the project so will not be returned to you, but all participation will be documented on this site and you’ll be kept informed of the project’s evolution. There may also be a printed catalog someday, we’ll see.

Format: standard postcard size

You can make your piece out of trash, or just make it about trash, whatever that word evokes for you. If you can send it openly through the mail as a postcard, great. If not, putting it in an envelope is ok too. Remember, the trashier the better!
